Beach Rd Hotel gig

They did it! Nina, Emma, Digby, Chris and Nam (with the spirit of Kirsty and Marky) all busted their moves in front of a 100 or so strong crowd at the Beach Rd Hotel, Bondi last Friday night. It was fantastic that a whole new group of people outside of the disability sector were exposed to the talents of these guys.

“The eyes on you are very different outside the of disability sector. It is so liberating and expanding. It is not a small thing it opens a new internal and external world instantly.” Jen Moxham (Digby’s mother)

Nam left the venue with one word to Alison, “More”, Chris had to be dragged from the dance floor after dancing solid for three hours, Digby said that this was what he was born to do.  Hopefully there will be more opportunities for these guys in the hip hop arena in the future!

Wrap up of Bakehouse

Bakehouse- it was the week that was! For a full wrap of events and all the photos check out the Bakehouse tab above!

Some feedback on Bakehouse:

“I really liked the caravan, the music and the puppets. I also liked playing all the musical instruments and trying on all the puppets and also doing what I did in the caravan. Thank you for the great time I had at CarriageWorks.”  Monica Lantin (student from JJ Cahill High School).

“I like it because it was fun, it was fantastic. It was great Break Dancing. I feel it was a bloody awesome week. All the tutors are great people. They make me feel so happy. I learnt how to make people laugh with the masks. I like to show other people the puppets.” Digby Webster (participant).

A personal thank you to everyone who was involved in Bakehouse either as a participant, tutor, host, volunteer, mail stuffer, cake baker, support worker, carer, parent, artist, friend.  Without your support Bakehouse would not have been the event that it was.  Much love, Al xxoo

Club Wild Hip Hop Workshops

Alison has been busy by building up her street credibility by helping Victorian organisation, Club Wild coordinate a series of hip hop workshops in Alexandria.

Last Saturday & Sunday an eager group of Chris Brown & 50 cent wannabes (how’s that for street cred) pushed away the Bingo tables and busted some moves with Aussie B Boy Morganics.  T-shirts and sweat bands were thrown as video artist Finton Mahony gathered footage for an original clip the guys will make to go along with their original song, The Wild Ones.

Stay turned for what the group get up to next week and an up coming gig!  Yes, already!

Bakehouse Photo Shoot

Bakehouse Photo Shoot

The Recreation Sports & Aquatic Club’s senior drama ensemble were the fabulous models for Bakehouse’s recent photo shoot. The group donned wigs, feather boas, detachable ears, googly eyes, oversized fans, fur coats and whatever else they could get their hands on in order to create some stunning, crazy, silly, cheeky and beautiful images for Bakehouse’s program.

Thanks to: the models Deborah, Lisa, Vanessa, Houssam, Melissa, Marky & Rachel. Tim, for taking the shots and Jenny for letting us use the space!
